Camping
Monthly Campouts
Our Troops organize monthly campouts which provide an opportunity for scouts to put the skills they learn at weekly meetings into practice and are based on the same theme as the preceding weekly meetings. On overnight campouts, boys and girls camp at the same campground and participate in activities together, while camping in separate campsites.
The capstone experience of the scout year is week-long residential summer camp in a mild climate such as Colorado, California, North Carolina and Tennessee. Scouts earn merit badges, participate in unique activities and build team cohesion throughout the week.
High Adventure Treks
Scouts ages 14+ can participate in “high adventure” opportunities such as high-country backpacking at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, sailing/scuba diving at Sea Base with locations in the Florida Keys, Bahamas, and U.S. Virgin Islands, among others. Scouts can plan their own high adventure trek e.g. Troop 211 had 3 treks to Alaska from 2012-2014.
Scouts BSA Swim Tests
All Scouts and adults need a Scouts BSA swim test within 12 months of participating in water activities at a campout. The Troops will typically organize a day for everyone to take a swim test each Spring. If you would like to take a swim test individually, the Weekley Family YMCA offers swim tests for $10, no membership needed. Email Melissa Langley to make an appointment. The Gigglin' Marlin Dive & Swim also offers swim tests by appointment for $15. For more information, contact Kyle Friesen, Aquatics/Swim Safety Coordinator.
